Learn the right way
Meet Celeste Ray
As a vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and composer, I’ve been blessed with a rich musical journey that has taken me from intimate coffee shops to Carnegie Hall. My fifth CD, “Four Leaf Clover,” reached No. 1 on Billboard’s World Genre chart in May 2009, a milestone in my career that reflects my deep passion for Celtic heritage.
This love for Celtic music brought me to New York City, where I worked with artist management and toured nationally with my group, “Four Celtic Voices.” I’ve dedicated years to composing, arranging, and singing harmonies while playing traditional Celtic instruments and piano.
The Los Angeles Times once described my voice as “a warm and pleasant instrument,” noting that my “performances on double Bowed Psaltery are of the highest technical caliber.” These words humble me, as they recognize the dedication I’ve invested in my craft since beginning piano lessons at age 6 and composing at age 14.
After earning my degree in music, I began performing in nightclubs and coffee shops, and served as Music Director for a non-denominational church in California. One of my proudest achievements has been performing my composition “Celtic Blessings” throughout the country, including at WESAK festivals—annual Buddhist celebrations dedicated to spiritual upliftment through music, ceremonial meditations, and lectures.
My performance journey has led me to prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall under John Rutter’s direction, Government House in Brisbane, Australia, and a memorable appearance as a guest artist for Pete Seeger in New York City. I’ve also shared my knowledge as a Celtic music workshop instructor at colleges in NY and served as Music Director for the Theater Department at Sonoma State University.
Today, I maintain an active YouTube channel featuring Classical, Jazz & World/Celtic music, and teach “Singing through the Seasons,” a program focusing on Celtic Music & Spirituality. My latest passion involves exploring techniques for releasing tension and trauma through voice work, creating programs to help vocalists discover their authentic sound.
I currently call the Appalachian foothills of the Carolinas home, where the local flora and fauna provide endless inspiration for my music and teaching. It’s here that I continue to grow and share my love for music with others.
